The Cattle Committee of the Swan Hill A & P Society invites all Cattle exhibitors and their families to join them following Judging of the Junior All Breeds for dinner on Friday night October 2nd  at 6-30pm. Adults $12, Children under 12 years $6. 

 

On Saturday morning a ‘Cattleman’s’ breakfast will be available from 7.30 am - Cost Adults $7, children under 12 $5.

MUST BE PRE PAID BEFORE SHOW.

 

Bedding Straw is supplied. ALL CATTLE MUST BE LED.

Competition in all classes is restricted to purebred animal, which are registered in their respective Herd Books or Calf

Registers. An inspector may examine the tattoo marks on all stock exhibited and if any animal is incorrectly branded it will be disqualified.

SECURITY OF ANIMALS: All male cattle over 12 months shall be rung through the nose and at all times be led by such ring. All exhibitors of male beef cattle must provide neck straps or neck ropes as well as halters for tethering.

SPECIAL REGULATIONS:

Entries Close September 25th 2009

Entry Fee $11 per head, GST

All entrants must compete in both Hoof & Hook section.

Heifers or steers are eligible.

All entrants should be traceable.

All entrants must have tail tags affixed in accordance with Department of Agriculture Victoria Regulations and an owner I.D. e.g. Ear tag with Exhibitors Name. All entrants must have NILS tag in accordance with the Department of Agriculture.

No HGP.

All horned stock must be DEHORNED.

Vendors must complete a National Vendor's declaration form (Available on delivery).

All exhibitors shall state on their entry form - breed, cross breeds or mixture of each animal, so far as is known. The name and breed of sire and dam if known.  Any male animal, which in the opinion of the chief steward shows secondary sex characteristics, will be deemed to be a bull, and will not be eligible for an award. Any decision or determination on this question by the chief steward is final and shall not be called into question in any proceedings. Subject only to general regulations, the chief steward reserves the right to make such determination and directions on any matter in relation to the conduct of the competition as he may think fit, which determinations and decisions shall be final and not be called into any question in any manner, or in any proceedings whatsoever.

Carcasses will be judged using the Ausmeat Chiller Assessment system and sold in accordance with price grid on the day.  All exhibits to be available for weighing 7.30-9.00 am on Saturday October 3rd  2009, at Swan Hill Sale Yards.

Carcasses will be on display at Swan Hill Abattoirs, River Road, Swan Hill on October 7th 10.00 am followed by presentation of trophy and prize money. On the hoof presentation will be awarded immediately after judging of each class.

Stock will be transported to the Showgrounds for judging, then later on Saturday to the Swan Hill Abattoirs,

River Road at no cost to the exhibitor.  ABN to be supplied.

Cattle are classed according to their live weight categories. Fat measurements are taken at the P8 and other sites. Points are gained or lost if they do not fall into the following recommendations within their live weight classes.

ENTRY MONEY MUST BE WITH ENTRY FORMS.

Merino entries will be judged as follows:-

40 points for evenness, 10pts for length, 10pts for colour, 10pts for character, 10pts for style, 10pts for soundness, 10pts for handle, 10pts for weight, 10pts for yield. Total 120 points.

Other Fleeces will be judged under R.A.S. points system. Points will be awarded as follows: -

10 points for trueness to type, 6 pts for length, 6 pts for soundness, 6 pts for handling, 6 pts for colour, 10 pts for character, 6 pts for density, 10pts for evenness, 40 pts for top and noel product. Total 100 points. Fleece must not be over 12 months growth and must be the property of the exhibitor.

Brucellosis Accredited Free Flock number must accompany entry form. All entries must be supported by a current owner/vendor declaration of Footrot freedom and ovine Johnnes disease freedom.

Any sheep, which, in the opinion of the judge is not up to the standard of the section, will not be awarded a first prize.

The signing of the Certificate of entry of any animal shall be taken as a guarantee that the animal is free from disease, lice etc., as far as it is known by the owner. In the case of infectious disease being spread through or by any exhibit, the exhibitor shall be responsible.

On request of the judge the exhibitor must be prepared to hold his sheep.

Aggregate Prize (Most Successful Exhibitor) will be calculated

First = 2 points   Second = 1 point

Shorn Sheep - Short Wool have no more than 25mm of wool.

Long Wools - Not more than 60mm.

All British Shorn Breeds of sheep except Border Leicester born after 1st May must be inspected to see that they are visibly tattooed in the ear with Society’s Registered Trademark i.e. (F in diamond), together with the Breeders Registered Flock Number in accordance with the Rules of the Society. Sheep not tattooed will be disqualified. Judging to commence at 10.30 am Saturday October 3rd 2009.  Please supply your ABN on the entry form.
